Design Timeline
- September 2014 – Initial inquiry by Ron Rowe who wanted to display our flag at an Air Force reunion for a nice photo opportunity
- October 2, 2014 – First run attempts from staff presented at Board of Commissioners meeting
- October 6, 2014 – Anonymous citizen submitted design and stated “It’s important for a Flag to be a thoughtful process: A true Flag should contain some elements of historic symbolism and meaning.”
- October 16, 2014 – Citizen design presented to Board of Commissioners and received approval to move forward
- January 6, 2015 – New city flag first displayed at Fairview City Hall
COLOR SCHEME
- The background to the Flag design is the TN State Flag with the blue and red color locations switched.
- It should be noted that any City Flag should be complementary and seen as belonging with the American and State flags and preferably not the odd Flag in the bunch. Looking as though it does not belong is a visual distraction.
CITY SEAL
- The tree portion of the City Seal with same colored circular background represents the natural growth of society, nature, Bowie Park and is part of the City Seal.
- The land beneath the tree represents natural landscape, resources, elevation plateau, surrounding valleys, nearby creeks and rivers.
- The dimensional scalloped edge surrounding the above noted tree and nature symbol and is another element taken from the City Seal.
IDENTIFICATION
- The name Fairview located in the ribbon with the Flag design states the City’s Name with our State name beneath.
LOCATION
- Below the ribbon are three 5 point stars which represent the 3 Tennessee land forms sharing the same meaning as the stars on the Tennessee State Flag.
- On the Fairview Flag design the larger white 5 point star in the middle represents the Tennessee land form where Fairview is located. That of course being the middle or central land form.
- The large single star also represents Fairview’s District 1 status in Williamson County.
HERITAGE
- Overlaid on the large single 5 point star is the Cherokee Nation’s Star which is proudly placed to represent the largest Indian Nation to have first inhabited these lands.
HISTORY
- The lowest element of the Flag design is the City’s year of incorporation (1959).
